New guy, first post.  Received my plans from Paul a week ago, got registered to the board, read/studied everything I could find on the subject and decided to build a non-firing version first. Hopefully, will be able to work out any bugs with aluminum first. Started building CAD models and making chips over the weekend. Finished 10 barrels and front & rear barrel plates.  If I can figure out how to post pics I will add them to this thread.

Looks good. I have been working on mine for years. Of course I had never owned a lathe or a mill before I bought the plans so I had a lot to learn and not much time to work on it. I am getting there and I\'m about half done. Keep up the post to encourage me to keep at it.

Thanks Sparky!  Maybe... I would like a display tho.


 


Working on the Bolt Carrier.  The Ejector slot... My ciphering says the \"points\" on the flats are at 2.103\" diameter, and the .150\" depth is registered from there, so.. 1.803\" diameter for the slot?  Here is a pic of the model with that dimension.  I realize it is just clearance, but that groove looks like it could be a wonderful contributor to jams.

Looking real good. Is that a Tormach mill you\'re using?


 


I almost finished mine two years ago and then had some serious health issue. All better now so I am hoping to correct a major problem. Milled part of the barrel away for the extractor and when it fires it occasionally blows the bullet casing out. When that happens it jams the gun , bends the extractor and is a real mess. Will have to cut the barrels off and redo then and make the gun a little shorter.

It is; Tormach 1100 with 6\" super spacer 4th axis. Should be able to set your barrels back, depending on your thread relief cut, and rechambering. It is possible to pick up existing threads if you are single pointing in a lathe.

Sometimes it takes a while for the post to appear. Not sure if the Admin has to approve it or not. 


 


I think I will just cut the barrels off and make the gun .750 shorter. I have a 770 I picked up used a few years ago. Since I am not a machinist it took a while to get it fired up. I am currently using Dolphin because that is what I got with the 770. I want to learn Fusion one of these days.

Really, really wish the 1100 had a 10k spindle like the 770.  Would help a lot with small tools like engravers.

Little more work last weekend.  Modeled the bolt carrier and a set of soft Jaws to hold the workpiece vertical.  Added a 3/16\" pin to index.  The idea is to mill one side and then flip to mill the other.  In this way, I didn\'t have to drill the full 3\", only about half.  Seemed to work fine.

Thanks - like that method much better.  Slotting the bolts is doable.  


 


Would like to build a centerfire along those lines one day.  I cast and reload a lot of different calibers so I could feed it easily.
