Got my gears installed and working.   Ended up making a meaty block to hold the crank and gears.    I was thinking that because it mounts to both the recoil plate and the housing it would assist in absorbing recoil.  The back edge of the block comes up flush with the housing and the inside of the rear cover for further recoil support.

I am probably paranoid about the recoil but better to err on the side of caution I figure.

Mainshaft gear is attached with a key and slot in the mainshaft which allows about .050 movement each way for headspace adjustment.   A needle thrust bearing is between the gear and the recoil plate.

The crankshaft gear is sandwiched between two needle thrust bearings and attached to the shaft with a 1/4-28 long setscrew through the gear and shaft.   The shaft runs in oilite bearings in the block on each end.

My homemade gears work great.    Only mistake was I should have put a shoulder on the smaller crank gear for the setscrew/pin.   I redneck engineered it with a shoulder ring spot welded to the gear.   I may remake that gear later with a integral shoulder,  then maybe not  LOL

Have not made crank yet.      SO.....    wanted to run things a bit.        A few more parts remaining but not much.      Notice the redneck test stand !    LOL

Not far now from some test firing.    I have yet to make the cocking mechanism and a crank first.    After some hand feed tests then a top cover / magazine.

Scratching my head on what to make a yoke out of for mounting the gun.    I have some brass plate acquired at a junk yard years ago, 3/4 x4 and 5, about 18 in long, a few pieces.   Thinking maybe to make some miter type cuts  and silver solder pieces together to make the yoke.     Something like a hex shape cut in half maybe??       What do you guys have in mind for a yoke?

You da man !       I just bought one of them.   My frame rails measure 5-1/2 to the outside edges so that piece will work well.    Actually, when cut in half I can get 2 pieces out of it.

Thanks !

I was going to order some brass for my frame rails two weeks ago,

decided to wait until I returned home from a one week trip.

I ordered it yesterday at a 7% increase , keeps going up.

I received the 1/2 X 1-1/2 brass for frame rails yesterday. Then Cam blanks, Casing blank

from Nebraska and a care package from South Carolina with assorted brass.

Life is good, thanks Sparky & 4171

As I’m cutting the radius in the rails for the casing,

two doors down they are trimming and shredding trees.

Cutter,

How are you going to mount your frame so it can pivot and be balanced?

I have the pivot holes in ( .625 )

The true balance point would be too far back and

interfere with a feed mechanism, so I moved it forward

a little.
