New working on my first build

I have been working on my first build for a few months and have the carrier block, barrel plate and front plate done except for the hex sleeve.  The bolt assemblies are done and I am now doing the barrels.  I grew up on the old manual machines and we did large repair jobs, so this is going to be quite a challenge working on such small parts.  I\'ve got a lot of questions coming up and hope you all will have patience.  Thanks and looking forward to the day I can fire it.

Wish that I could offer lots of great help but our group is just starting and you have gone a lot farther. We hope to get started in Jan 2014 on our builds. Just buying materials and reviewing plans at this time.

But I can wish you a Big Welcome to the site.

Did you make a one piece bolt carrier or two piece??

I finished reaming the barrels today.  I used a chambering reamer with a go-guage.  Worked great.  I used Acraglass to bond the liners to the barrels and that seemed the easier way to go than trying to solder them.  I did have a problem with the liners before bonding them.  The 5/16\" extension drill didn\'t leave any wiggle room.  I ended up filing the O.D. of the liners in the lathe to get a slide fit.  As far as the carrier block.  It\'s one piece and is brass.  I was very concerned with what would happen when drilling through 3 1/2\" of brass then steel on the rotory table.  Even with good spots to start and a good drill and dialing in as close as I could get it, I felt there would be a slight drift.  There was.  The bolt circle was 2.000\" on top and 2.012\" at the bottom.  Hence, I assume, the purpose of the 3 parts being sandwiched and doweled.  The 2 piece carrier block might be something to think about.

When I made my bolts, I started having issues with the holes drifting, so I had to make them in the lathe. After doing that, I decided to make the carrier in two pieces, and made a fixture to make the carrier (2 pieces) and front and rear barrel plate all separate. It took more time, but I think it was worth not having to repeat parts.
