Connecting the trail to the axel ?

I am currently building the carriage for my RG&G gun. I have most of the wooden parts completed but I\'m confused on how to connect the trail to the wooden axel. The plans do not show this connection. The base plate has a 7/16 tapped hole in the center for mounting the yoke assembly. I was thinking about using 2 long wood screws to connect the trail to the axel and counter sink them. Any thoughts?

Never mind! I found the answer in the plans.

I can\'t seem to find it in the plans.  So, how do you connect the trail to the axel?
