Happy New Year everyone! I had a little time this morning so I cut the slot in my box cam. I\'ll need to do some blending to smooth out the finish, and a 3/16\" pin binds in the corners so I\'ll need to smooth them out also, but I\'m happy with the results. I\'d be happy to loan out the fixture if anyone can use it.

Thanks Matt, have you started on your pair of them yet?

Today I worked on the hardware for the hitch and gunners seat. I need to take a trip to the salvage yard for some more brass soon.

Your parts look great! I\'m working on the carrier block and barrel plates. I made a set out of aluminum for practice and they came out okay.

Sorry no pics of the aluminum test part, I used it to test a new Glacern face mill.  However here is a picture of the current progress on my carrier block and barrel plates.

Looking real nice manatee!
I had some unexpected free time today so I finished blending/polishing the lobe surfaces of my cam. I think I\'ll polish the pins and caps on my bolts along with the top edge of the recoil boss also to make things as slippery as possible.

I decided to try bolting together my oscillator and mag base. I had to modify a couple of socket head cap screws, but both assemblies seem to be pretty stout. I\'m going to go ahead and run them like this to see how they hold up, I can always silver solder them later.

my65pan,

Great ideas on bolting the components together. I\'ve been putting off getting back on my build as I don\'t want(know how) to solder. I\'m going to get some books that were reccomended and read up on it. There\'s also a model engineering show in a few weeks that I\'m going to head to.

It\'s good to see inspirational ideas coming forward.

[quote name=\"bruski\"]Your parts are looking great, I wish I could work better in the heat here in Yuma. My machine shop/office/dog house is air conditioned sort of as it never turns itself off on these hot days.

I just joined today, and I too am in Yuma.....Bad humidiy this year!

@my65pan
Beautiful work! May I ask what material grade you used for the Bolt Carrier? I\'ve just finished drawing all the parts in SolidWorks and I\'ve not yet selected materials. My friend and I are going to \"Tag Team\" the parts for 2 gats in 2 different shops to expedite construction.
Again.....Absolutely beautiful work!

Sorry it took so long for me to answer, my Gatling has been on the backburner for some time, I got married. My carrier and barrel plates are all made from 17-4 stainless, only because I happened on a nice length of it at the scrapyard. Next up for me are my barrels. I have the tubes, just need to cut the liners, solder them in, and machine them. My buddy says he\'ll have the woodwork for the carriage done soon also.

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your wife

Very nice work, 17-4 is not the easy way out.

It may be some time before I finish my Gatling, my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I\'ve sold off my equipment, cashed out my 401k and life insurance, and am just treading water at this point keeping up with bills, meds, etc. It just isn\'t a priority anymore.

Unfortunately my wife passed away back in May, she fought a good fight, but lost in the end. Work has resumed on my Gatling project this week, the liners are silver soldered into the tubes, and the guy that did the soldering even X-Rayed the barrels to ensure he had a good bond. I\'ll update as progress continues.
