Cast vs Machined parts

As the title states, I\'ll put forward a few things I have found.

I used to work in the automotive prototype industy and made a lot of prototype models which we sent off and get cast. There was a lot of wastage in these parts, but overall we did get good results. I intended to leave the company which meant I would loose access to huge workshops.

Before I left, I had a lot of my parts cast in brass / stainless thinking it would be easier long term to finish them off. I now have a  lathe, pillar drill, compound table, rotary indexer and lots of smaller tools.

I added machining material to some surfaces, but I left some surfaces as they were. Now I\'m coming to machine some of these parts I am finding a few of them have small imperfections in them.

Additionally, where with two machined parts that slid into each other, if they didn\'t fit, a quick measurement would show you why not. With hand finished parts, this isn\'t the case.  I\'m at the stage where I\'m thinking of ditching some of the cast parts and starting from scratch with them.

Maybe If I had cast the parts and then any surfaces that needed machining, I did from scratch, I would be happier. Has anyone else used cast parts?
