Build Progress
« on: October 28, 2020, 10:28:34 AM »
HI All,
Thought I would post up some pics of my D&E GG build progress. This has been a side project for the last 5 years or so -- I tend to work on it in fits and starts :)
While it now fires through all barrels, the extractors are not installed yet. I designed a finger style extractor that is sliver brazed to the end of each bolt.

Just added 3 pics of the extractor to my original post. I've yet to mill the pockets in the breech ring but the extractors seem to be very strong.

Getting a D&E design gun to function is no small feat !    Very few have got a functioning gun.   Well done !
Look forward to how those extractors work out.

Thanks Sparky! It has been a fun challenge that's for sure. I made several springs before I got the firing pin pressure good enough. I'm using .029 music wire which equates to aprox. 3.8 in/lbs. I also milled a flat on the firing pin shaft and used a grub screw in the retainer to pin the clocking of the firing pin. In this way I was able to dress the end of the firing pin for maximum penetration. I'm currently finishing up the extractors now. Hopefully I'll be able to test these out in the next couple weeks.

The extractor design I came up with is fully installed on all bolts. Dry firing is showing all rounds successfully being extracted. I will be putting the GG back together and attempting some live fire tests to see how well they work. They appear to be quite rigid
