I\'m not at that stage yet but I\'m looking ahead. I envision test firing one barrell at a time. I don\'t want to pack up tools and everything and head for a range to test fire 1 barrel. My shop is in my basement so I thought about setting up a backstop made from 2x4\'s a few feet from my test stand. I fired a 22 pistol at a double 2x4. Went through both of them. Is anyone else using a backstop? Ideas would be appreciated.

I heard 6 inches of sand will stop any round up to 50 bmg. I seen a link somewhere where a guy built something using shreded tires. Let me see if I can dig it up!

I used a stack of phone books for my backstop. Postmaster was glad to get rid of them as no one seems to want them anymore.

you can also buy 22 cal bullet traps at many sporting goods stores, they are pretty cheap.

I used a 2x4 frame covered with 3/4\" plywood and filled with sand. Hundreds of .22 shorts into it with no problem so far. Every so often I tape up the holes to keep the sand from coming out.

Ground up tires, rubber mulch sold at wal mart or home depot is what I will end up using in a bullet trap.

Wowzers !!! A small bag for purposes of a bullet trap isn\'t bad BUT this stuff isn\'t going to replace regular mulch for landscaping any time soon !!! 2.65 yards for $733 !!!!!!!!!!!! Regular mulch sells for anywhere from $12-$25 a yard locally depending on the color. Somebody is making a ton of money grinding up old tires. Especially when you consider that they usually charge you to dispose of old tires.

I got a box, simple 10 wide by 6 deep by 8 tall in inches. stuffed it with phone books and cardboard and old schoolbooks. Most everything stops in the very first book.

I only use it for .22.
