January 4th is the 10th anniversary of the rover Spirit landing on Mars.
The second rover Opportunity, landed 3 weeks later on January 25th.
Opportunity is still operating , the Spirit is quite.
Here\'s a familiar picture.

The two piece suspension arm with mirror imaged sides are laser beam welded.
The wall thickness is 1 mm or .04 thick. Also Titanium.

All this work I did in 2002, which helped considerably with my retirement.
I have a few souvenirs around also.
This ends my bragging, maybe.

The shop I was working at in \'03 did a lot of work for a subsidiary of General Dynamics in Redmond Wa. that specialized in gas generators, air bag technology. We ended up machining the canisters and pistons for the high speed, low atmosphere re-entry parachutes for both rovers. Machined them from billet alum. approx. 12
in. dia. by 18in. lg. They ended up weighing next to nothing. One of the coolest projects I made tooling for.
