Boring Outer Ring?
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:08:18 AM »
What is the best way to bore the internal areas on the outer ring?  I tried boring on the lathe but I\'m having problems boring deep inside. The inner ring was no problem! I could try it on my mill with a Criterion Head or buy a grooving bar for the lathe. I tried making one from an old boring bar. Thanks.

Bob,

This is the what I would use for the operation.

A 1.00 boring bar for rigidity, with tool bit no wider then .125

and take small multiple passes

Jerry,
Thanks, that what I had in mind. I actually cut an old boring tool down but not that small, however it slipped back while I was cutting the backside of the raised area and made it too narrow. I think I was trying to take out too much at once.  I have some 1/4 HSS cutters and some 1\" steel round so I will make a new one.  The .125 is that the height of the cutter or the distance from the bar, length. BTW do you have any more one piece bolts?

Bob,
The .125 is the width , but can be smaller maybe .090
No more Bolts.

Good Luck
